Newsletter Issue #102

Knowledge is power. ARCON Welding is pleased to share information and knowledge with our customers, potential customers and our distributors. This Bi-monthly publication features ARCON's new products, Workhorse welders used in various applications, distributor news, and technical information to include questions and answers. This publication is designed to offer a wide array of knowledge and topics, some of which we hope you will find useful.

WHAT’S NEW AT ARCON WELDING?
ARCON is selling machines through new Workhorse distributors in Norfolk, VA, in Columbus, MS, in Belle Chasse, LA, in Cincinnati, OH, in Long Island City, NY, in Taiwan, and in New Zealand. Many new distributors took advantage of our "Under the Wire" additional discount for new orders of multiple units to help generate sales before ARCON's October list price increase.

ARCON’S FEATURED WELDER
The Workhorse MIGweld 300MS CC/CV is a remarkable MIG/Stick welding machine that is designed to enable users to use an array of wire feeders from several manufacturers. This means that when a customer using a Miller S-22A replaces their old power supply with a MIGweld 300MS, they can simply plug the14-pin feeder connector into the new power source without making any changes. This is also true for other S-22 models such as the S-22P8 and the S-22P12. Customers using Spoolmatic 30A spool guns can connect their WC-24 unit and spool gun into the Workhorse MIG power source. Businesses transporting welding equipment on a regular basis can couple the Workhorse MIGweld 300MS with rugged wire feeders such as Miller's Suitcase 8VS and 8 RC.

The MIGweld 300MS offers MIG and Stick welding current from 10 to 400 Amps in two current ranges. The machine is available for all standard domestic and international input voltages. This little powerhouse can be used for MIG short arc with puddle control, spray transfer, stick welding, and carbon arc gouging. ARCON's standard carbon arc gouging protection circuitry eliminates harmful currents caused during arc gouging. The MIGweld 300MS is equipped with arc force control for stick welding, and uses all types of electrodes, including 6010-5P. The cooling fan on this machine doesn’t operate at less than 100Amps. This greatly reduces the intake of dust into the welder. The machine has Smart Surge Control that reduces weld puddle agitation. This eliminates a major cause of slag inclusions in the weld.

The MIGweld 300MS incorporates constant-arc power, which means less dependency on a steady hand to achieve a great weld. The constant-arc power makes "burn through" almost impossible when increasing the arc length or welding thin material. MIG welding is much easier when you can forget about holding a constant arc length!

ARCON's exclusive SCR type inverter is used in all Workhorse welders. Research into repair records indicated that the SCR-inverter design to be 100 times more durable than IGBT inverters that are used in other brands. This multiplies the life of the machine and greatly reduces costly downtime. The rugged Workhorse fiberglass enclosure handles tough work environments and "dragging skids" underneath are standard. This 19.5" long x 17.9" high x 10.5" wide machine stores easily. ARCON offers a Seahorse corrosion-resistant version for harsh environments. Although ARCON’s welders are considered to be superior in handling over-voltages and spikes, the Warhorse option is available for excessive voltage surges and spikes in "dirty voltage" environments. All ARCON welders comply with UL 551 and equivalent CE/IEC60974-1 safety standards. Visit ARCON online at www.arconweld.com for our complete line of brutally rugged and dependable welders .

MEET OUR DISTRIBUTORS
In July, George and Mike Bell from ARCON visited Beckley Welding Supply, Inc. in Beckley West Virginia. Beckley Welding sells to heavy industrial markets, the automotive industry, local businesses, manufacturers and contractors, and to prisons in West Virginia and neighboring states. Richard Hodorovick told how he wore the wrong colored clothing and came close to residing with the inmates. Richard provides equipment, repair service and on-site training to the prison staff, just as he does for all of his customers. The company's large, modern warehouse houses new and used inventory and is well equipped for equipment repair. Richard takes great pride in recommending the correct equipment and accessories, and in seeing the new equipment being properly used before leaving the customer's location. Beckley Welding Supply has been a stocking distributor and authorized repair center for the Workhorse welder line for several years. Richard keeps an adequate supply of Workhorse machines on hand. Businesses near Beckley can contact Richard at 304 252-7050 or by FAX at 304 252-5320.

APPLICATIONS AND EQUIPMENT
ARCON receives many questions about stud welders. The Studhorse 1200 and 1200DM Stud welding models use drawn arc circuitry. Customers new to using stud welders in their business ask whether they need a drawn arc or a capacitor discharge machine? Normally, a capacitor discharge stud welder should be used for studs less than a quarter (1/4") inch in diameter, and a drawn arc stud welder when the studs are greater than a quarter inch in diameter. The Studhorse 1200 and 1200DM models are both drawn arc machines, and can be used with generators on job sites. Mike Gress at W.R. Repair in Brewster, NY (845 278-2300) rents the Studhorse machine with a generator. Mike was amazed that the Studhorse properly welded full-base 5/8" studs while using a small Multi-Quip 60KWA model generator. ARCON recommends that customers rent a generator in the 60KWA to 100KWA range, depending on usage and altitude, to determine what may be used in their area before buying their generator.

George is always interested in hearing your applications using a Workhorse welding machine.

ASK THE TECH

Question: What is "Dirty Voltage"?

Answer: Dirty Voltage is a term identifying voltage that contains frequent voltage spikes. This is opposed to voltage that is free from fluctuations. When generators are used, the voltage fluctuations cannot be adequately controlled resulting in damage to the equipment that is being run by the generator. The Warhorse option from ARCON for Workhorse machines is designed to increase the voltage spike survival tolerance over standard designs by ten times (1000%).
