New Low Open Circuit Voltage Options are Available
Low Open
Circuit Voltage options reduce the risk of electrical shocks
from welding machines. The chance of a person sustaining injury
from an electrical shock is great when working in damp and confined
space work environments. A recent Government study states that
"Properly understanding the hazards and adopting effective
safeguards is necessary to prevent potentially fatal incidents."
(U.S. Department of Labor, MSHA Technical Assistance PAR 0088369).
Safety Managers in many businesses are familiar with potential
hazards in this area, and are striving to provide safe work
environments and comply with OSHA regulations.
ARCON presently offers two Low Open Circuit Voltage (LOCV) options.
For Stick welding (SMAW), LOCV Option A reduces the Voltage
at the electrode to only 8 Volts! This is essential when working
near or under water. To use the Workhorse welder with a Voltage
Sensing Wire Feeder, LOCV Option B reduces the output Voltage
to only15 Volts. This Voltage enables the power source to properly
provide power to the accessory wire feeder. Buyers must specify
LOCV Option A or Option B at the time of purchase, depending
on how they will use the machine. ARCON believes that offering
both the 8 Volt and 15 Volt LOCV option will help provide a
higher level of operator safety within specific industries and
welding applications.
All Workhorse welding power sources are designed to be used
in damp and demanding environments such as offshore platforms,
shipyards, mines, paper mills, power generating plants and industries
that require low open circuit voltage protection. Welding machines
produced by ARCON are fully guaranteed against corrosion-related
failures in natural operating environments for 5-Years. For
more information on the LOCV option and pricing, contact ARCON’s
Sales Manager, Maggie Porter.
